The Acreage Transformers 14U girls flag football team won the 2011 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics flag football championship in New Orleans. The competition was held July 30-31. The Transformers, who faced several 19U opponents in pool play, defeated the Orange Crush 13-0 in the championship game.
The Wellington Wild 8U girls travel softball team placed third at the USSSA Road to Orlando Fastpitch World Series. The competition was held July 21-29 at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex. During the 2011 travel season, the Wild placed first in five tournaments and finished second in four other tournaments. Team members are: Paige Rodriguez, Raegan Conley, Carolyn Von Warne, Alexis Mobilia, Hannah Dube, Catherine Glenn, Kaitlyn Martinez, Bri Granitto, Kaylee King, Rylee Hagan, Morgan McNeill and Abby Klan.
The Acreage Athletic League is taking fall baseball registration Saturday and Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Park, 6701 140th Ave. North. The league is open to ages 5-18. Cost is $70 for Tee-Ball and $90 for all other age divisions.
The Tyler McLellan Foundation will host its 3rd Annual Pats vs. Colts ticket raffle fund-raiser beginning Sept. 1. The main prize will be two VIP tickets to the New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts NFL game Dec. 4 in Foxboro, Mass., hotel accommodations, dinner and limousine service. The drawing will be held Nov. 27. The Tyler McLellan Foundation helps low-income families keep their children in sports by helping with the cost of registration and equipment. Wellington has received a $100,000 grant from the United States Tennis Association in an effort to encourage the '10 and Under Tennis' program. The money is part of the USTA's $2.5 million effort to build on tennis in this age group across the country. Wellington Little League Baseball registration for the fall season has begun . Kids ages 4 -14 are eligible. A birth certificate and two forms of residential identification are required. Registration will take place at Village Park today, Aug. 15 and 17th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday and Aug. 20th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Divisions close as they reach capacity. The Royal Palm Beach Police Athletic League is now offering boxing lessons and training for boys and girls ages 10-18. Coaches at the RPB PAL boxing facility are USA Boxing certified and will teach participants the fundamentals and create workout routines.
