Auburn - Auburn Adult Education classes announced for the month of October.

Certified nurse assistant, applications are being accepted.

Computer basics, October 31, 6-7:30 pm Mondays for six weeks.

AAA Safe Driving for operators of maturity, 5-9 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 5. A video and lecture designed to increase awareness of safe driving for people 55 and older. Qualify for the Maine Discount insurance compulsory for 55 years and over.

Alpaca school Oct. 8 to Oct. 22 at Cumberland and Pownal. Both sessions are 3 to 5 hoursLearn about sustainable agriculture and textile fiber arts in Maine alpaca farms in four. Preregistration is required.

Babysitter training for children aged 11-15, Oct. 13, from 6 to 21 hours on Thursday to three weeks. Learn how to prevent accidents, what to do in an emergency and how you can be important in the life of a child. This course includes CPR training and certification.

Cancer: Take another look, 6-8 pm Monday, Oct. 17. Teach a totally different perspective of what we call "cancer." Based on the five biological laws of the German New Medicine.

Embrace your Heart Song, 6 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, Oct.3. Learn how to connect with the energy of your heart relax and rebuild your physical body and energy and clear your auric field.

Hand or tote bag, October 13, 6-9 pm Thursdays for six weeks. Hand to make a quilted bag or tote using this simple model.

Hormone rejuvenation for women, 6-8 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 5. CALM HealthWorks offers an advanced method of endocrine (hormonal) reconstruction based on traditional Chinese medicine and homeopathy in Germany.

Hoop fitness, Oct. 26, 6-7 pm Wednesdays for six weeks.Increase flexibility, stability and building core strength with this fun, full-body toning and cardio. Hoops measure of exercise will be provided.

Maine Driving Dynamics, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, October 13 and 14. Offers all drivers the opportunity to improve defensive driving skills. Those completing the course receive a certificate and a credit of three points on their driving record. Seniors over 55 receive a discount on their auto insurance.

Makeup for a younger you, 7 to 8:30 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 5. Learn the techniques of professional make-up.

Nutrient dense foods for optimal health, 6-8 pm, Thursday, Oct. 27. Dr. Weston Price traveled the world in the 1930s and 40s and studied the isolated non-industrialized eat their aboriginal diets were free of caner, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc. This class will cover the fascinating 10 types of food and eating principles Prices found. It will also cover 11 types of foods to avoid.

Free Dress Pattern for 18″ Knit Doll - clairemeldrum.ca

OK, succumbed to buyer’s impulse on Friday and picked up a wonderful knit doll from our local toy shop, Citizen Kid .  It’s not far from our house, so the boys always have to stop by and ‘ad-mire’.  Ellie turns three later this month and I thought she would enjoy the doll that I found for her birthday.

It’s made by a French company, Blabla .  Very charming, whimisical designs and since they’re knit, really, really soft and squishy.

The dolls are sold au naturel, except for a very cute pair of ruffly knit knickers (no ruffle on the boy dolls).  Then you get to choose their clothes and darling little knit accessories separately.

Except holy expensive clothes, Batman!  They are lovely outfits and I really appreciate that they’re made in an ethically sourced manner, but when I saw how much they wanted for what amounted to a pillowcase dress that’s about the size of a handkerchief (seriously, about the same as what I’d spend on a real person sized dress!), I knew I’d be heading home to the sewing room, to whip something up for a heck of a lot less.

Since I had my scraps right at hand, I decided to make a doll sized version of the AS&E dress I just finished and thought I would share the pattern for the dress, since I couldn’t find any existing pattern that would fit this particular doll.
