Patch Fact of the Day: Following President Richard Nixon's resignation from office, Gerald Ford was sworn in as the nation's 38th president. Eight months earlier Ford had stepped into the role replacing Spiro Agnew, who resigned amid political corruption and tax evasion charges. The High Hopes Foundation will hold a meeting on Aug. 17 to teach attendees what they can do to help some of New Hampshire's most critically ill children. It will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce, 69 Route 101A, Amherst, in the Colebrook Bank building just west of Walmart. The High Hopes Foundation of New Hampshire, Inc. works to grant wishes to New Hampshire's severely- or chronically-ill children ages of 3-18.
