No more BYOB at Takara Japanese Restaurant in Canton.

The Canton eatery , which had a bring your own beer and wine policy, has officially upgraded to an all-alcohol serving establishment. The Canton Board of Selectmen approved the Japanese restaurant's application for an all-liquor license at Tuesday night's meeting.

Takara , located at 592 Washington Street, has been open for the past eight years in Canton.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, the Town Administrator Bill Friel, updated the board on the Human Resources administrator job search . Friel told the board that the search committee will present three finalists to the BOS for consideration this month.

"All three candidates are very strong," Friel said.

In addition, Canton DPW Operations Manager Dan Teague presented an update to the BOS on public works projects. Teague told the board the following:

All the sewers in the town have been flushed. The DPW assisted with the construction of the new Luce School Playground , which was built earlier this summer. Several streets throughout town have been paved. Residents can expect Chapman Street, Old Coach Road, Westdale Road, Will Drive and Flintrock Road to be paved. Sidewalk construction at Canton High School will extend the sidewalk near the lower parking lot. The Pine Street culvert project is currently underway and the Bolivar Street culvert project will start in September. Every street in the town has been street-cleaned at least once. Street line painting is completed in town. Tree work is being done throughout the town. All the plows and plowing equipment is repaired and ready to go for winter.

The next Canton Board of Selectmen meeting is being held Tuesday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall.

The Canton Public Schools’ Music Department held a two-week music camp for middle school students July 18-28.

Run by high school and middle school music teachers, the two-week program offered budding musicians a chance to practice their skills while learning some new ones. High school musicians also helped out and provided leadership.

The camp ended with a rousing performance on July 28 to the delight of the families and friends of the campers. The concert included the following performances:

Concert Band, directed by Brian Thomas: “Blue Water Bridge” by Lloyd Conley, “Be Still, My Soul” arranged by Robert W. Smith, “Valdres” by Johannes Hansen, arranged by Robert W. Smith, and “Fanfare for a New Era” by Mark Williams.

Advanced Strings, directed by Barbara Gorcyzyca: “John Ryan’s Polka,” an Irish Polka arranged by Dabczynski and Philips, and “Groovin’ for the First Time” by Randy Sabien and Bob Philips.

Jazz Ensemble, directed by Brian Thomas: “St. Thomas” by Sonny Rollins, “Watermelon Man” by Herbie Hancock, arranged by Jerry Nowak, and “Little Sunflower” by Freddie Hubbard.

“Jazz Ensemble and Advanced Strings: “C Jam Blues” by Duke Ellington.

The Summer Music Camp was another successful offering by the Canton Public Schools’ Music Department and its dedicated teachers, who gave up two weeks of summer vacation to make this work. Thanks also go out to the high school students who volunteered their time. The music department has several musical concerts planned for the winter season, and they hope to see members of the community in the audience in the CHS Auditorium.
