More hearings on proposed RIPTA cuts

BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) - Two more public hearings took place Wednesday, as Rhode Island taxpayers get a chance to sound off on the largest proposed transit cuts in state history.

RIPTA is considering cutting about ten percent of its bus and trolley service to make up for a $4.6 million budget shortfall.

The cuts would affect 39 routes in 35 communities.

The public hearings kicked off Tuesday in Newport.  Two more hearings were held Wednesday at the Burnside Building in Bristol.  Six additional hearings are also scheduled before RIPTA makes a final decision on the proposed cuts:

Thursday, July 28 Warwick City Hall, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.,  6 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday, August 1: Providence, URI Feinstein Campus, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 2: Narragansett Town Hall, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
