Phillips Lighting recalls flood lamps

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of 1.86 million Philips Lighting flood lamps due to a laceration hazard.

The EnergySaver reflector flood lamps with dimming capacity also sold as Marathon or Marathon Classic Compact Fluorescent lamps have globes that can possibly detach and fall, striking a person below the lamp.

The firm, Philips Lighting Co. of Somerset, N.J., has received 700 reports of lamps where the glue has failed and the outer glass globe has fallen.

The flood lamps involved in the recall include EnergySaver Dimmable R30 Reflector Flood lamp with model number EL/A R30 Dim 16w, EnergySaver, also sold as Marathon or Marathon Classic with model number EL/A R40 Dim 20w and EnergySaver Dimmable Par38 Reflector Flood with model number EL/A Par38 Dim 20w.

They were sold nationwide from March 2007 through July 2011 for between $11 and $24.

Consumers were advised to stop using the lamps and contact Philips for instructions on how to receive a replacement product.

Consumers can call 866-622-6372 for information.
