Falcons' Friday Night Lights depth chart

FLOWERY BRANCH — Here’s the unofficial working depth chart for the Friday Night Lights scrimmage at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Norcross High.

Don’t pay too much attention to the one and twos. You won’t see that much of them. Concentrate on the three, four and fives.

Also, the Falcons signed tight end Aaron Simmons on Friday.  Simmons, who played at Arizona, takes the spot that was vacated by Robbie Agnone , who suffered a foot injury and reached an injury settlement with the team.

Here are couple of guys to keep an eye on:

Rookie Cliff Matthews (Number 98, 6-4, 268) has been impressive in one-on-one drills. He’s very sturdy and moves well off the edge. Linebacker Youri Yenga (Number 49, 6-1, 231) he’s moving well in space and has made some nice hits. Cornerback Kamaal McIlwain (Newberry) has made some interceptions and shown some nice speed.  Defensive end Emmanuel Stephens (Number 96, 6-3, 255) always seems to be around the ball. Safety Rafael Priest (Number 38, 5-10, 181) has flashed into a few plays early in training camp. Quarterback Adam Froman (Number 13, 6-4, 220) has received a lot of work with John Parker Wilson just becoming eligible to practice on Thursday. (Wilson was an exclusive rights free agent and couldn’t start practice until the league year started on Thursday). OFFENSE

 Quarterback – 1. Matt Ryan (Number 2), 2. Chris Redman (8), 3. John Parker Wilson 9(4), 4. Adam Froman (13).

Grimes was our main liability last season, but since teams went to him so often last season and because of his small size and amazing catches, most people think he is our best corner. I think our defense would improve greatly if Franks is given a bigger role this season. I also think the first round tender would have been much more valuable than 5′8″ Grimes.

Geeze … all you grammar teachers / editor-wanna-be’s and all of you gay fashion critics …get off Orlando’s back. If you have what it takes, go get your own column and draw your own readers. Otherwise, talk is cheap.

Keep the faith, DLed, and thanks for the update! These are vital to the run up to the start of the season.

Grade the Atlanta Falcons Off-Season

I'll give TD an A. Agree on all except Jenkins – which would float somewhere between a c- and an F. I think most agree that Meier contributing is unlikely. Harry D was a big disappointment and we let Fin go. So, unless some of the practice squad guys

Gravitational Forces

As I was rummaging through some papers and I found a great article I wrote my Junior year of high school. It was covering how gravity affects different sized masses. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I set up your basic run of the mill implicit function with three unknown variables. The equations I formulated were very, primitive. Looking back on the paper, There are so many places I can simplify the equations with simple integrals and derivatives. I titled this paper, “Gravitational Forces.” This was my first piece of work I’ve really been proud of. I took a concept of gravitational forces of planet sized bodies and derived an equation that would solve for acceleration’s “constant” for three or more objects moving together. I use constant in parenthesis because acceleration due to gravity is not constant, but i doesn’t change at a very fast rate, so we call it constant. Looking at this paper, I can see how people from the past can come up with crazy ideas like calculus. It just takes the imagination to think about something in a different way.

It’s funny to look back on grade school. I was never really challenged in grade school, so I never really applied myself. Heck, I enjoyed Band class, but I never really took it serious. This is a problem I still face today. Physics now is very easy, and I don’t really take it that seriously. The labs are trivial and the basic. In college, I’ve been challenged in some of my classes, but not others. For starters, I’m really digging the neurophysiology course I’m taking this quarter. I’m glad I decided to take it. I’ve always been fascinated with the brain, and this is a two part course on the CNS. Next quarter, I’m looking at taking another group of boring classes. I’m either going to be taking Calc IV or Differential Equations, Circuits I, Physics II, and neurophysiology II (the only one I’m excited about). I need to bear with a few more boring classes until I can get to the really fun classes.

For the last two or so months, I’ve been working the day shift at my place of employment. This is something that’s helped me a great deal with my school work. When I was working third shift, I would have such an irregular sleep schedule that I would not be able to sleep for days at a time, and I would then beige sleep for days at a time. This caused me to miss work on a few occasions and caused my school work to suffer. The hour a day commute to work and school was killing me. Switching to days gave me the time I needed to be able to enjoy life and still have time for work and school, even though I’m working more hours than before. I don’t really need to work, but I enjoy the extra money.
