Hot summer days bring surprising sales volume

-->

While its competitors cool their heels during the next few weeks, Constantine & Pletcher blazes on with four sales during August.

Constantine & Pletcher

Constantine & Pletcher is move full speed ahead as August opens, rather than use the summer slowdown to stock up on merchandise for fall sales,

"Actually, August is going to be our busiest month of the year," Dan Pletcher says. "Maintaining that pace over the summer has been demanding. But the results have been worth it."

Kicking off this month's schedule on Sunday is a sale that follows the company's two-part format of cataloged and non-cataloged sales. By Pletcher's definition, non-catalog covers a range of goods of a more recent vintage or those showing a few too many dings to make the grade for the cataloged sale, where bidders will find higher-quality, better-maintained and rarer items. Still, many of the non-cataloged lots would be great finds in just about any sale, such as a collection of contemporary stoneware with old-time appeal. Also on the block are ceramic figures, toys, glassware and other items in the $50 to $1,000 range.

After the non-catalog sale wraps up, the main event starts at noon as a full-on charge of military regalia marches to the frontlines. Amassed over the years by local collector Robert Lloyd, who is downsizing his possessions, the grouping contains mostly battle-related gear from World War I and II. Along with a spiked Kaiser Wilhelm helmet from the Great War, the memorabilia includes full World War II German infantry, Panzer and U-boat uniforms. If your preference leans toward the Allies side of the conflict, plenty of U.S. uniforms, hats and swords can be found in the mix.

In the furnishings category, a leather-covered Maitland-Smith collector's cabinet packs plenty of storage space for smaller keepsakes with 15 drawers that are nicely decorated with brass pulls. An Asian incense burner, in the shape of a twisted, nearly upright serpent snaked around the bowl, would nicely dress up the cabinet, as would a larger bronze monkey posed in a seated position. For those in need of a blessing, Greek and Russian icons could be had for a prayer -- and high bid.

Among the other highlights are a smattering of paintings, etchings and lithographs; a Japanese bronze teapot; a 19th-century toolbox, complete with hand drills, hammers and chisels; and a Cleveland Indians jersey autographed by Hall of Fame pitcher "Rapid" Robert Feller, who died last December.

For Sale – Handmade Japanese Sword Katana Wood Scabbard W ...

For a people of such integrity in everything they do, one must realize that the sacred sword that the Japanese held so dear was possibly the product of many of the country`S most educated and devout smiths resulting in the fusion of technology and artwork. Continuous warfare of living and dying by the Sword resulted in the code of Bushido. (Way of the Warrior including strict guidelines of behavior to preserve Honor)

Bushido is what governed the Samurai live a life of high honor and service and to commit ritual suicide know as seppuku, if ever they lost a battle of had been disgraced in any way. The Samurai was trained to either win the fight or die by his opponent` s sword or by his own blade to avoid surrender. This was done to preserve the honor and to keep the family from being shamed by the defeat.

This is a real sword made by a master sword smith by hand. It is not a cheap with a spot-welded rod for a handle. It is not certain how old this sword is and one would need an appraisal from a professional Samurai Sword expert for more information as I am not an expert and haven`t paid for an appraisal. This is a full size katana and is fully functional. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us anytime.
