Search in a 'floating feet' case leads to troubled young man from Surrey, BC

As Talib turns a corner of Surrey, British Columbia Annacis highway, its destination is in sight on the edge of the horizon. Although they extend up to 150 meters from the Fraser River, from this distance, the two towers of the Alex Fraser Bridge look like nothing more than tuning forks.

When Talib (not her real name) left her parents' home in suburban Surrey this morning to 5 Years Day in 2004, he told them he went to the local Sikh temple. Wearing a blue tracksuit and a pair of Nike, the 21-year also bears the mark of his religion: a turban on his head, a bracelet on his wrist and a kirpan.

Going up the ramp of the bridge, he brings his car to a stop on the road between the two towers. After clicking on the hazard lights, Talib steps of the car, locked the doors and headed for the railing of the bridge. He does not know if he hesitates before jumping.

Tuesday of this week, Vancouverites awoke to news of an event that is becoming commonplace strangely disembodied feet discovered a pump in the waters of the Pacific Northwest.

Since the summer of 2007, 11 feet have washed up on the shores of southern British Columbia and northern Washington State.A newly created branch of the service coroner's difficult to find where the feet are mysterious.

After years of using some of the world's most advanced forensic techniques, one of the research unit would lead right back here: a troubled young man standing on a Surrey bridge deck freezing.

Approximately every 65 minutes, or unexpected sudden death is reported to the coroner in British Columbia. Most are quickly identified by a family member or an identification card.Every few thousand dead, however, emerges a body that seems to defy all attempts at identification: waterlogged corpses floating, a piece of skull that was not discovered in a forest clearing for decades. These are the organizations that Stephen Fonseca. "We do not have the luxury of watching the blond hair, blue eyes, scars, marks or tattoos in many of our business," said Fonseca, responsible for identifying the coroner's office . "We are facing an arm bone or a pair of legs."

The first foot was found Aug. 20, 2007 by a young girl of 12, walking along a small island off Vancouver Island.A week later, another right foot showed up a few hundred miles north on Quadra Island. "Finding one foot is like 1000000-1 odds, but to find two is crazy," a spokesman said local RCMP.

Global Genealogy News: New resource from TNA about crime and ...

The result of their hard work features in a new online resource Prisoner 4099 which launches on 9 March 2007 and can be accessed through The National Archives' award-winning Learning Curve website . The play focuses on the case of William Towers, a boy from Richmond in Surrey. In 1872, at the age of only 12, William was imprisoned and sentenced to one month´s hard labour. His heinous crime was stealing two pet rabbits. The young people gathered together original source materials from the archives consisting of newspaper articles, Government papers and letters. Once they had analysed the information, they decided to produce a radio documentary interpreting all the information gathered and using their imaginations to bring the characters to life. The documentary was then uploaded to the Learning Curve site, along with supplementary information, to provide a valuable teaching resource on crime and punishment in the Victorian era. The children selected the Towers case because it was a subject they could relate to. It brought home the unfair and harsh treatment child prisoners were subjected to in Victorian times. The author and poet Oscar Wilde highlighted the problem as a national issue when he wrote an angry letter to the editor of The Daily Chronicle after he was released from prison in 1897. This letter also features on the site.
